| Watching the Super Bowl in Kilgali Rwanda Feb 5 2012 |
We arrived in Kilgali late Saturday night and on Sunday met to review the patient list and set up the ICU. About half of our 2012 Team Heart are "rookies" but very experienced. We have folks from all over the USA including CO, WA, NC, MN, WI, FL, SC, and CA. We will be operating on 2 patients a day and we plan to do 16 surgeries. Our first patient is a 15 yo boy named Jean De Dieu ( John of God) who weighs 82 lbs and his voice has not changed. He is sooo young. I will recover this boy and a 22yo women tonight when i go into work tonight from 9pm to 7am. I will be working the next 4 nights so staying up for the superbowl til 5am was really ok and a good prep for my next week. I have not worked nights in 4 years so, at my age, i may feel it more than i want. It is all for the good of the patients and the team.
Lee, the man ( Thomas) in the picture above is a cardiac surgeon who lives in Boulder, CO so i have told him about you music and band.
